What to Wear: BlogHer11 Edition

I am going to BlogHer in about two weeks. I wish an antacid company would sponsor my trip because I am pretty sure my stomach is rotting away with the amounts of acid swirling around. I could write a post about how nervous I will be knowing that I am almost the whole continental United States away from my family. I could write about the guilt that is bearing down hard about leaving my family. I could write about how certain social situations create a *touch* of anxiety.

But that is making my acid extra-swirly, so let’s talk about something fun:

Clothes!

I can’t decide exactly what to wear. I mean I narrowed it down to a few outfits all in the same color palette to minimize the shoes that I need to pack.

Oh, did mention I’m only doing a carry on? A certain airline that shall remain nameless (hint: they took over North West) decided to put our bags on a different flight for weight reasons. Twice. In a row. Can you believe that?! (And for the record, our bags were NOT fat; they were just full of necessities). So I am done with the checking of the bags conversations (just like Ben Stiller in Meet the Parents). Before I ask for your opinion on my outfits choices, take a second to answer my Skinny Scoop Survey about carry-on bags versus checked bags:

Before the fashion show begins, I would like to preface it with the following points:

  • I want to thank my photographer (my mom) who did not have an easy time snapping the pictures without The Babes sneaking in since they were running around like monkeys.

  • I had to fit this *very* informal photo shoot in after my morning walk and physical therapy appointment (which is another post altogether). So I am essentially wearing no makeup and my hair is a mess. (The good news is, since these pictures were taken, I got my roots taken care of).

  • My set design does include a laundry basket, an assortment of toys, and The Babes.  Obviously.

  • I want to be clear that I did not do my hair and makeup. Just a *gentle* reminder.

Tell me what you think of the outfits in the comments section.

Here's this outfit with a short sleeves shrug

Here is the same outfit with a long sleeved
shrug with a flower-y detail
Here's the same look with a different necklace
I was thinking of making this a conference
outfit with the casual shoes. . .
what do you think?
Or maybe add some fancy shoes and make it
a party dress?  I. Don't. Know.
Party dress for sure, but what do
you think of the necklace?  Too casual?
I thought this might be too casual for
the conference, but maybe it's OK?
Here's the same outfit without the shrug.
Maybe a travel outfit?
Travel outfit or conference outfit?
Here's the same look without the shrug.
Or maybe a short sleeve shrug?
I would love to have a personal stylist.

If you made it this far, thanks for playing!  You don't believe that I just *might* be overthinking this thing just a tad, do you?  Yeah, me neither.  I mean, I am home all day with my kids.  Anything will look stepped up next to my kahki shorts and T-shirt, right?

Please, please give me your input. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures of my outfits at the conference!

Have a great week!

Relax, girl! Pick what you feel the most comfortable wearing. You've got a great style sense. You'll be just fine, no matter what you choose.

Or, you can be like me - bring a variety of stuff, go downstairs in the morning, decide you don't like what you're wearing and run back upstairs to change! ;-)

You're outfits looks very practical, similar to what I'm thing! (neutrals are the best for mix/match) Cute and comfortable! Just add a little sparkle for Sparklecorn! (or drop my room, I've got tons of sequins!)

I would add a pop of color - something red or the very trendy orange? And, like others said, go with what you are most comfortable wearing - what did people wear last year? And, dont forget, this is in San Diego - it's very casual out there, from my experience traveling there for business. Have fun!!! Maybe I'll go with you next year :-)

Christina, thanks for the compliment! I appreciate it!

All Those Things I Love, for sure sparkle for Sparklecorn! I may just have to take you up on that offer!!

Terre, I was thinking some color, too. I'll have to see what I can find. Last year, people wore all sorts of things ranging from business wear to jeans and T-shirts. And you are so right about southern California. I forgot to think about that. I was afraid that maybe the racerback tops were too casual, but maybe not.

I really hope that you come next year!! I am really loving your posts!!

I have an idea for you! You could even do a SkinnyScoop guide with all these options and have people vote on SkinnyScoop.com or put the guide widget on your blog. People could even add suggestions. How cool!

PS I LOVE the short black dress. Where is that from?

If i were going to blogher, I would go with the last two types of outfits. The short leggings and the khakis. The dress thing is a little too much to think about, isn't it?

And I agree, bring a bright or funky top to give some color and then you can have the blacks and tans too.

Love the dresses for the parties! You know I love that black dress! You look amazing in it and have great legs! I think you should bring something bright to pop some color within the many neutrals you'rr packing. Also, leave the khaki capri's & tank for a travel outfit. I don't recommend those for the conference or the parties.. Too casual. Remember first impressions are very important. It is important to wear what you feel most comfortable in but should always step it up when networking and promoting your blog, business or both. Especially when you hope to network with professionals of influence.

Claudia, thanks!

Eden, that is a great idea! I will do that for sure!

And the dress if from Old Navy. Can you believe it?!

Shannon, good point! I am also packing a fuschia silk dress that was at the cleaners at the time of my "photo shoot." I plan on wearing that on Friday!! So exicted!

I quite like outfits 1 and 7. Then again I live in pants and dont particularly have a liking to dresses or skirts. Maybe my opinion is a teeny bit biased. haha
Also dont worry too much about the outfits. Go and have funL! I would have loved to attend something like this, but to travel from South Africa is a tad bit far! lol!

Now you're making me nervous! I was planning on checking my bags! But I'm only going from northern CA to southern CA...so hopefully I'll fare okay.
Love your outfits...espicially the maxi dress...I have a couple in my bag as well!
