Update

Hello!  It’s been awhile since I last wrote here.  Maybe you have even forgot who I am, or better yet let me reintroduce myself since I am definitely not the same person I was when I started this blog.  Either way, click here to read my origin story

Last time I checked in here, it was almost 3 years ago.  I was talking about space – the kind that kids take up and the importance making some for myself and my creative projects – which is totally relevant to me right now and probably will for be for a long, long time to come.

But I realized that I left you hanging.  I started writing my book when Elizabeth Gilbert had me on her Magic Lessons podcast  and had Cheryl Strayed gave me advice on how to balance motherhood and creativity. And a lot has happened since my follow up interview and spot on Nightline

So what ended up happening?  Well, I focused all of my free time on writing my story about losing myself to fit into my family and how motherhood and writing helped me rediscover who I am.  It took me four years to complete my first draft, and during this process, everything has changed.  I have come through with a whole new understanding of who I am and how I contribute to my own suffering.  I also understand how I am responsible for getting myself out and staying out of that dark place.

So, with a completed 1st draft manuscript, I do the next scary thing (scarier than the actual writing, I think??), and that is finding an agent.  I am ready to find a place out in the world for this story, and I think an agent will be able to help me do that.

In the meantime, I would love to share my insights that I have gained by combining motherhood and creative living, but here’s the thing – I don’t know if Mommy on the Spot is the place for this anymore.  Also, my website, erinjandarawlings.com, is under construction right now since there is a lot of work that needs to be done in tidying it up.

For now, my newsletter is the place that I am going to talk about what I have learned and the progress on the next steps in this creative living journey.  I have been in the writing cave for so long and miss the feeling of connecting like I did when I was blogging.  I would love it if your signed up here to get on my email list (and I promise not to bombard you with emails, maybe just once or twice a month).  I also spend a lot of time on Instagram  and can be found on Facebook and Twitter, too.  I would love to hear from you and talk about honoring your creativity and combining that with the other responsibilities in your life!
